The tone is decent for a Japanese import.Ĭan you tell me anything further about this model? (Have had her since 1997, was likely well over 20 years old then). I know it's a D-12-28 copy and it is a decent guitar that has seen plenty of use and still is in good stuctural and cosmetic condition.
It has the sideways M and a paper label that reads 'CF Martin and Company, Made in Japan'. This would make my Sigma S28DR12-7 12 string between 30 and 39 years old. Sigma guitars made in Japan from 1970 through 1979 can be distinguished by a headstock logo consisting of the single word 'SIGMA' surmounted with Martins ('sideways M') logo in mother of pearl above it and an inner paper label giving model and serial numbers. I love this guitar and will be surprised if my new D-41 Sunburst sounds much nicer.I just want the 'BLING', and besides, it is almost 40 years old.but do you think I could adapt to a D-41 special neck? My Sigma will become my second indoor guitar.Years ago, I tried to register it with Martin, and of course, they didn't have anything to do with Sigma. On the head stock, in abalone is 'SIGMA' and below it 'est. This is interesting, but my guitar was purchased in 1970, and is stamped inside the soundhole, 'Made in Japan' and 'DR-41'. I have yet to hear of one that came close to its Martin counterpart.
Hi Joe, I have two used Sigmas, a DM3 and DM4 for about $120 each three years ago, which I designate as my 'beaters,' and I also use them to try out various modifications before applying them to my 'real' guitars. Most if not all Sigmas are laminates and vary widely in sound and tone, from awful to not bad. Solid tops maybe? Are they worth even considering? The asking price is only a few hundred $, so I though they would be worth investigating.Any input is appreciated.Thanks,Joe. I don't know anything about these guitars except they were made by/for Martin, I think in Korea. Can anyone enlighten me on these? Are they all laminate? Don't want to open a can of worms, but I have been looking for an inexpensive 12 string and I ran across (on line) a Sigma. Hello,I thought I would post this under Guitar Critics Corner because these are not 'real' Martins.
